     Col. George Reade came from England to Virginia in 1637. He served as Secretary of the Colony of Virginia in 1637, Acting Governor of Virginia in 1638, Burgess from 1648-1656, and Member of Kings Council from 1657-1671. He was a common ancestor of George Washington and Robert E. Lee, making them our distant cousins. Col. was born at Lincolnholt, County Hampshire, England, on 25 October 1610. Col. immigrated, in 1637. Destination:. He married Elizabeth Martiau in 1641. His body was interred in 1674 at Yorktown, Virginia, at Grace Episcopal Church.1 Col. died in 1674 at Virginia.
