She was baptized at Warwick County, Virginia. Religion:. Lockey Langhorne was the daughter of John Langhorne and Mary Beverley and granddaughter of Maj. Robert Beverley of Jamestown.
Born about 1723 in Warwick County, Virginia (would later become Denbigh and then Newport News) she was the sister of Maj. William Langhorne who married Elizabeth Cary Scarsbrook, a cousin of both George Washington and Thomas Nelson, and daughter of the wealthy Yorktown merchant Col. Henry Scarsbrook. Henry Scarsbrook was the great-grandson of Capt. Nicholas Martiau, the man whose plantation was later turned into Yorktown.
Lockey (named after Judith Lockey, the wife of Capt. Henry Cary and mother of Anne Cary) was successfully courted by Thomas Tabb. Lockey's considerable dowry helped to establish the Tabb family as members of the Tidewater elite.1 Lockey was born at "Gambell", Warwick County, Virginia, circa 1723.2 She married Thomas Tabb at Charles Parish, Warwick County, Virginia, circa 1739.2 Lockey immigrated, circa 1750. Destination:.3 Lockey died before 1781 at Cumberland County, Virginia.2 Her body was interred before 1781 at Cumberland County, Virginia.

Edward Tabb served in the American Army during the Revolution. Amelia County, Virginia, was in bad financial trouble after the American Revolution. They had loaned so much money and food to the cause and in the late 1790s, a wheat crop failure added to their problems. At the same time that Edward and Jean left Virginia, his younger brother, Langhorne Tabb, married Judith Cox and left Powhatan County, Virginia and may have traveled south together. Langhorne stopped in Rowan County, North Carolina, and Edward and Jean kept going to Burke County, Georgia, where they lived near Waynesboro. (Source: Research by Jeanette P. FAMILY HEADS 1805 GA. by Joseph Maddox page 184.
EDWARD TABB, SR., Burke City, wife JEAN CLEMENTS.
I feel certain that EDWARD TABB son of THOMAS AND LOCKEY TABB of Va. came from Virginia 1801, probably migrating with his brother LANGHORNE to Rowan Co., NC and continuing on to Georgia seeking land. In 1805 Land Lottery of Ga., EDWARD and two of his sons draw twice each and draw blanks each time. I think that some of the WALTON kin from Va. came with them to Ga. Maybe some of the CAMPBELL kin came also.
In the 1807 Land Lottery of Ga. three TABBS drew from Burke Co., GA.: JEAN TABB (widow), THOMAS, and THOMAS all from Ballards Military District. EDWARD must have died between 1805 and 1807 drawings. This time all three drew land in Wilkinson's County. Each lot was 202 1/2 acres. Cost $12.15 each lot. This was rich, fertile land, but I do not know if our Tabbs moved there or sold their land. Records in Burke and Wilkinson Counties have been burned. We are lucky to have what information that we do!
NOTE; About 1807 drawing: I think the two THOMASES who drew was one THOMAS with two draws. Married men with families were entitled to two draws and THOMAS received two good draws. (This information provided by Jeannette Probst Tabb.) Edward was born at Charles Parish, York County, Virginia, on 9 September 1742.1,2 He was baptized at Charles Parish, York County, Virginia, on 12 October 1742. Religion:. He married Jean Clements at Amelia County, Virginia, on 22 December 1763.3,2 Edward immigrated, circa 1801. Destination:.4 He was listed as a resident in the census report circa 1805.5 Edward died circa 1806 at Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia.2 His body was interred circa 1806 at Burke County, Georgia.
