     Poem written by WILLIAM MARION TABB in commeration of his cousin MISS DORA TABB and was read before the I.O.G.T. Lodge and published in Times Review Sep 12, 1896.

DORA

Sep 12 1876 Sept 5, 1896

In Fond Rememberance

In course of time we have our own being--
We were not, we are and we have been--
So runs our nortalities.

By conception we begin our existence,
Are nurtured into living souls
With breath of life eternal.

While in the mortal coil
We meet, make friends,
And then our exuent.

In life, we are epistles written,
"Read and known of all men,"
No matter how we live.

Then we should write them spotless,
Free from mark or blemish,
Our reasonable duty.

As for example, we will point
To DORA, our beloved sister
Whom we all loved:

Just blooming into womanhood--
Was almost twenty years old:
So pure, so bright, so lovely!

Our hearts follow after her,
Our tears will not restrain,
For love of such a flower.

A vacant chair is in our midst:
DORA is absent now;--
Cruel death has claimed her.

"To know her was to love her"
Alike by all she met;
She had such a sweet character.

But she is gone now--
Is buried in the churchyard,
Silently in the grave.

We mourn her absence truly,
None can fill her place
In our dejected hearts.

Our Lodge has lost an advocate,
Determined and strong in the faith
Of the Templar's final success.

Sister and brother Templars,
No more we grasp her hand
When we meet in the lodge.

No more we greet her happy face
Bedecked with jeweled eyes--
Index of a true soul;

No more we hear her pleasant voice
Pleading teetotalers cause
And justifying the pledge.

She has gone to God, we know,
In that "sinless summer land"
To dwell with the angels.

So let us wipe our tears away
And cheer each other's hearts--
She is not dead, but sleepeth;

Asleep in Jesus the Savior
To answer at judgement day,
As we all must do.

And to be "asleep in Jesus"
Is only a recompense
From our earthly labors;

The boon to sing redemption songs
Around the great high throne
Forever in angelic glory.

Then let us pray the Savior
To give us hearts as true
As hers whom we mourn;

Free from sin's death crimson,
Free to give Him praise
All our whole life long;

To help us to accept this;
"Thy will be done on earth,"
And give us life eternal. Dora was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 12 September 1876.^1,2 Dora died on 5 September 1896 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at age 19.¹ Her body was interred on 6 September 1896 at Titus County, Texas, at Union Hill Cemetery.¹

     He married Birtha (Bertie) Lee Ponder. Paul was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 14 October 1888.^2,1 He was listed as a resident in the census report at Titus County, Texas, in 1910. Paul died on 7 February 1983 at Longview, Gregg County, Texas, at age 94.^2,1 His body was interred after 7 February 1983 at Longview, Gregg County, Texas, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.^3,2,1

     Oren Alexander Tabb married Emma Beck. Oren was born at Titus County, Texas, on 12 November 1891. Oren died on 4 March 1959 at Titus County, Texas, at age 67. His body was interred after 4 March 1959 at Titus County, Texas, at Winfield Cemetery.

     William Alfonso (Fon) Tabb was buried at Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana.¹ William was born at Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 10 October 1894.^2,1 He was listed as a resident in the census report at Titus County, Texas, in 1910. He married Clara Ann Edwards in 1922.¹ William died on 29 August 1976 at Bethany, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, at age 81.¹ He was buried after 29 August 1976 at Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana.¹

     She married George Miller Hays at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas. Lula was born at Titus County, Texas, on 26 September 1900. She was listed as a resident in the census report at Titus County, Texas, in 1910. Lula died on 7 February 1976 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at age 75.

     She married James Ernest Scott at Hardin County, Texas. Blanche was born at Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 12 April 1905.¹ She was listed as a resident in the census report at Titus County, Texas, in 1910. She died on 2 January 1990 at Longview, Gregg County, Texas, at age 84.¹ She was buried after 2 January 1990 at Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, Bienville Parish, Louisiana.¹

     Winfred was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 22 February 1908. He was listed as a resident in the census report at Titus County, Texas, in 1910. Winfred died on 18 December 1993 at Titus County, Texas, at age 85. His body was interred after 18 December 1993 at Titus County, Texas, at Union Hill Cemetery.

     Oscar Cook Tabb married Ethel Jane Weldon. Oscar was born on 17 June 1897.^1,2 He was listed as a resident in the census report at Waco, McLennan County, Texas, in 1910. Oscar died on 2 September 1967 at age 70.^1,2 His body was interred after 2 September 1967 at Waco, McLennan County, Texas, at Oakwood Cemetery.^1,2

     Carroll Clinton Tabb married Mary Katherine Anderson. Carroll was born at Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on 9 November 1898.^1,2 He was listed as a resident in the census report at Waco, McLennan County, Texas, in 1910. Carroll died on 4 January 1968 at Dallas County, Texas, at age 69.^1,2 His body was interred after 4 January 1968 at Waco, McLennan County, Texas, at Oakwood Cemetery.^1,2

Virginia died on 12 October 2000 at Bexar County, Texas, at age 94.^1,2 Her body was interred after 12 October 2000 at Waco, McLennan County, Texas, at Oakwood Cemetery.^1,2

     She married Johnny Arthur Brooks. Modelle was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 14 April 1906. Modelle died on 23 December 2000 at Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at age 94. Her body was interred after 23 December 2000 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at Masonic Cemetery.

     James was born on 30 July 1904. His body was interred in September 1961 at Hampton, Virginia, at St. John's Episcopal Church. James died on 15 September 1961 at age 57.

     She married James Morgan Tennison.¹ (---?---) died. (---?---) was born.

     Henry's occupation: Manufacturing.. He married Virginia Mae Firestone.¹ Henry was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 3 July 1875.¹ Henry died on 16 February 1936 at Houston, Harris County, Texas, at age 60.¹ His body was interred on 17 February 1936 at Houston, Harris County, Texas, at Forest Park Cemetery.

     She married Henry Booker Tennison.¹ Virginia died. Virginia was born.

     She was baptized at Methodist. Religion:. Rosa was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 4 December 1877.¹ She married Samuel Columbus Broadstreet at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, in February 1900.¹ Rosa died on 5 April 1966 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at age 88.¹ Her body was interred on 6 April 1966 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at Masonic Cemetery.

     Samuel's occupation: Phusician.. Samuel was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 30 July 1864. He married Aggie Virginia Tabb at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 17 January 1888.¹ He married Rosa Belle Tennison at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, in February 1900.¹ Samuel died on 12 October 1934 at Paris, Lamar County, Texas, at age 70. His body was interred on 13 October 1934 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas.

     Georgia's occupation: Homemaker.. Georgia was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 16 November 1880.¹ Georgia died on 27 May 1961 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at age 80.¹ Her body was interred on 28 May 1961 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at Masonic Cemetery.

     Don was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 13 May 1890. Don died on 21 May 1891 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at age 1. His body was interred on 22 May 1891 at Titus County, Texas, at Cookville Cemetery.

She married Isaac Newton Williams , Jr. at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 26 December 1912. Jeffie died on 1 November 1971 at Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas, at age 79. Her body was interred on 3 November 1971 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, at Masonic Cemetery.

     Aggie was born at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 12 September 1893. Her body was interred on 16 October 1893 at Titus County, Texas, at Cookville Cemetery. Aggie died on 16 October 1893 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas.

     Isaac died. Isaac was born. He married Jeffie Lee Broadstreet at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, on 26 December 1912.
