     Colonel John Lewis Burwell commanded a regiment during the Revolution, and for fourteen years was a member of the Virginia legislature. Anne his wife was the grand-daughter of Governor Spotswood of Virginia. Col. was born at Stoneland, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, in 1745. He married Anne Spotswood on 24 March 1768. Col. died in 1800.

     The death of Mr. Tabb soon after their move to Jackson County Created a severe hardship on the wife but she was able to maintain the home and raise the family despite the loss. The Tabbs settled on the Fuqua farm southwest of Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma.
