Rose's brother, James Howard Tabb, writes this about his Grandma for Rose's research:

"In 1928 my Grandma Tabb [Sarah Driskill] died. She lived in Todd County about forty miles from us. Dad had to hook up about four mules to pull the wagon because we didn't have a car. Dad had to stop by and pick up his brother Les [My Grandfather, Leslie M. Tabb] and his family. All together there was about sixteen of us in that wagon. We filled the wagon with straw and put quilts down. The wagon was so full, Ted [My Uncle Oscar Clayton Tabb] had to ride the coupling pole all of the way there. I remember seeing Grandmother's body. They took her across the backwaters to Browder, there she was sent to Russleville for burial."

From the same source Mary Lou Tabb Key has this to say:

"I remember when Granny Tabb died. We went to see her and she had a black dress on and money on her eyes. Mom was holding Rose and I was so scared that I was clinging to Mom's legs so tight she could not move."

Rufus Hicks Goodnight

Rufus was born at Evansville, Vandenburgh County, Indiana, on 30 January 1852.¹ He married Drucilla Frances Tabb at Kentucky on 20 October 1877.² Notes for RUFUS H. GOODNIGHT:

Rufus went to Benton County in 1886. He and his wife Drucilla along with three children, Sylvanis, Charolotte and John. They went on the train to Rogers, Arkansas, where they were met at the station by a friend, William Hicks (Hix). Hicks took them by wagon to the Dug Hill area where his mother Lucinda was living with her deceased husband's sister, Matilda Jane and her husband Archibald Adcocks and their son Bob. The Adcocks lived in a one room log cabin, just barely large enough for the four of them to live. Other arrangements had to be made for Rufus and his family so, they decided to set up a tent for them to live in until they could find another place.

They lived in the tent until 1890 when Rufus and his mother Lucinda went to Harrison, Arkansas to file their homestead applications. They each filed for forty acres which ran along the Arkansas and Missouri line, and lies along the bottom of the valley just off Highway 340 in Bella Vista, Arkansas, which is now known as Pea Ridge Hollow. The homesteads were approved in 1903, and they were given five years to build up the land.

By the time the deadline was up they had built a two room house, barn and smoke house and had planted a thousand apple trees and various other fruit trees on his land and on Lucinda!s land they had also built a two room dwelling house, barn, stable, smoke house and planted three hundred apple trees and various other fruit trees. Lucinda!s land joined Rufus' land on the west side and after her death in June 1893, he inherited hers.
